Wash-Thy-Sins Silver & Gold Cufflinks
Richly ornate sterling silver cufflinks with a deeply meaningful inscription around their perimeter. This inscription is in the form of an anagram, i.e., in Greek it reads the same from left to right as it does from right to left.
"Νιψον ανομηματα, μη μοναν οψιν" ; which translated, means "Wash away thy sins, not only thy faces".
Particularly famous for having been inscribed above a fountain in the courtyard of the famous Church of Hagia Sophia in Constantinople (present day Istanbul in Turkey) during the Byzantine era (395 AD to 1453 AD), this inscription appears in a number of churches and monasteries throughout Europe (usually inscribed in all capitals) which creates the mirror-like effect represented on these unique cufflinks.
A powerful statement, a gentle reminder. The carefully detailed & symmetric central cross completes the face of each cufflink as a seal. Around the precious and evocative seal, a highlight of 22K gold braid crowns these important jewel cufflinks.
